UNEMPLOYMENT FORECAST
UNEMPLOYMENT IN THE NEWS
The unemployment rate went up slightly, to 9.6% for August. Some economists still expect it to go higher by the end of the year.
As of August 28, 2010 the figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 472,000, a decrease of 6,000 from the previous week's revised figure. The past 4-week average of initial claims being filed was 485,500, a decrease of 2,500 from the previous week's revised average of 488,000. The 4-week moving average is supposed to smooth out fluctuations in the weekly figures. After three weeks of increases, it looks like we are back on the roller coaster. I'm afraid employment opportunities are not looking good.
