Generally, you do not need a lawyer in order to become eligible to collect unemployment compensation benefits. The cost is just too prohibitive. However, you may want a lawyer in the following instances:

You want to file an appeal to the Board of Review determination (a court appeal).

You need Worker's Compensation because of a work-related injury.

If you feel you lost your job because of discrimination, or wrongful discharge.

This does not mean you need a lawyer to collect UC benefits; just follow my strategies if you get denied.
