COMMON MISTAKES CLAIMANTS MAKE WHEN FILING INITIAL UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION CLAIMS

 

1. Selecting the wrong gender when filing over the internet causes embarrassment from improper wording on forms.

2. Providing too much information when asked if they have anything more to say.

3. Not filing a claim immediately upon separation from the employer.

4. Inaccurate information regarding their own address or phone number.

5. Inaccurate information regarding employer address or phone number.

6. Using wrong separating employer because they do not want that employer involved.

7. Not answering questions correctly, causing wrong paperwork to be completed.

8. Incorrect reason for separation.

9. Not stating that they worked in other states when such work may provide a higher benefit amount through a
combined wage claim.

10. Incorrect social security number, especially when filing over the internet.

11. Not requesting
backdating, or predating.

23. Requesting federal income tax withholding while working part-time.
