 Unemployment Made Easy Blog
The war against the working class continues. Now the third state to join the assault is Maine. The first was Wisconsin and the second Ohio. Gov. Paul LePage, Republican, has removed a mural dedicated to labor from--wait for it---The Department of Labor lobby. This 11 panel mural was commissioned by the previous governor, a Democrat, in 2007 and placed in the Department of Labor lobby in 2008. Gov. LePage had it removed because it was not a part of his policy goals. He has been classified as a pro-business governor.
Not only was Wall Street responsible for the current economic mess we are all in, they continue to weaken and debase the working class. Wall Street got bailed out by the US Government but Main Street is still on the losing side. Wall Street not only got all the bailout money, they also got enormous bonuses--and that for setting the country, if not the world, up for a big financial downfall. And don’t forget that GE, aka Wall Street, paid NO income taxes last year, despite making billions!
A lawsuit has been filed to get the mural reinstated, not because of its significance to labor, but a denial of the public’s access to art. It should be reinstated because of its dedication to labor, including Rosie the Riveter, strikers and others depicted on it. It’s like taking the US Constitution out of public display because it no longer confirms to our current policies.
The working class will have to join together even more, that is, get UNIONited, if anything is going to be salvaged.
