Senator Jim Bunning finally acquiessed Tuesday night and allowed the legislation to pass the Senate.  Remember, this is only a short fix of just a few weeks until something more definite can be found.  But, for those whose unemployment benefits (extension) expired the end of February, there is a short respite.  COBRA payments have been extended also.  Hope they can create more jobs somehow.

Introduction to Unemployment Compensation Made Easy

Filing for unemployment is made easier with my techniques.

HI! My name is Jack Prince and I worked for the PA unemployment agency for 15 years. Most recently, I worked as an unemployment claims examiner. I worked in a field office and dealt directly with those applying for unemployment and understand their feelings, and sometimes distress, over losing their jobs. The information on this site will help you avoid the costly and time-consuming mistakes claimants make when filing for unemployment compensation benefits. It will also help you receive those uc benefits without delay. If you are denied unemployment insurance, my ebook, Appeal-Winning Strategies, will show you how to tip the hearing to your side.  Click here to view an excerpt from the ebook.  Effectively file an appeal and claim unemployment benefits that are due you by getting a reversal on your denial determination.

If this is your first time filing for unemployment, start with the first topic below.

UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION BENEFITS AND FEDERAL TAX FILING

ANSWER: You should receive a 1099-G about the end of January or the beginning of February which states the amount of UC benefits you received and the amount of income tax you had withheld, if any. Use these figures under unemployment compensation on the tax form. Be sure to use the amount of income tax withheld because this is a credit against the total benefits you received. Keep the 1099-G as it contains other information you may need to file your Federal taxes, such as the Federal Employer Identification number.

UNEMPLOYMENT FORECAST BLEAK

UNEMPLOYMENT IN THE NEWS

The unemployment rate stayed at 9.7% for February!  This is the second straight month at that rate.  In December it dropped to 10.0% from 10.2% in November.  Hopefully, the trend downward will continue.

As of March 6, 2010 the figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 462,000, a decrease of 6,000 from the previous week's revised figure.  The past 4-week average of initial claims being filed was 475,500, an increase of 5,000 from the previous week's revised average of 470,500.  The 4-week moving average is supposed to smooth out fluctuations in the weekly figures. It's going to be quite a roller coaster event for quite some time.

TRADE ADJUSTMENT ASSISTANCE (TAA)

Trade Adjustment Assistance is now available for unemployed persons in most states.  Contact your local unemployment/job office to see if anything is available for you.  Your state should contact you if you are eligible but don't rely on this happening.  Call your local unemployment office to see if you qualify.
